History

For over 70 years, the Faulhaber Funeral Home and the Faulhaber family have been an integral part of life in Broadview Heights. When the funeral home first started, Don and Lenore purchased Lenore's mother's house near the corner of Broadview and Sprague Roads. They remodeled, redecorated, and moved in with their three children. Additions were added in 1961 and 1985.

We are the oldest single family owned business in Broadview Heights. The funeral home was the only funeral home in the area and became the center for emergency services. Ambulance service was provided for Broadview Heights, with backup service to North Royalton, Brecksville, Seven Hills, and Independence. An extension of the fire telephone was installed, along with the button that controlled the fire siren. The siren was necessary to notify the volunteer firemen working outdoors that they were needed for an emergency.

The civil defense warning system was also installed in the funeral home. This was the only building in Broadview Heights with 24-hour coverage. A perpetual coffee pot was kept on so that emergency personnel working during the night would have a place to stop. The building has changed, the city has changed, but the telephone is still answered 24-hours a day by a member of the Faulhaber family.
