Donald L Rust

Donald L Rust, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 9th. He was the husband of 60 years to Louise ( Cecelic ); Father to Donald, Ronald ( Cindy ) and Richard; Grandfather to Philip Rust,  Emily Dahmen ( Zach ) and Halle Rust; cousin, uncle and friend to many.  He was preceded in death by his mother Carrie ( Elenz ) and father Wilbur along with his sister Ellen and brother Dennis.

Don was a lifelong resident of Brecksville OH, having graduated from Brecksville High School in 1951. Following High School, Don traveled the country in a Jeep, owned a Sohio service station, became a barber, worked as a Teamster and finally retired after 20 years working at the City of Brecksville.

As a father he spent countless hours driving his sons to swim or basketball practices, meets and games and coaching them in baseball. He later played softball with them well into his 60’s

As a grandfather he went to horse shows, bowling matches, cross country and swim meets and taught all that listened the game of pinochle that he loved.

He had many memorable trips with family to New Mexico, Florida, Alaska and Australia.

He was also a 50 year member of the International Order of Odd Fellows fraternal organization.

His pride in the City of Brecksville and Brecksville High School never waned. Throughout his retirement he was a fixture around town, especially at the Rec Center and nearly every HS basketball and football game. His passion though was the baseball team where the coaches and teams adopted and accepted him as one of their own. He truly epitomized what it was to be a Brecksville Bee.

A Private Service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
