Leo H. Bender

Leo H. Bender, age 90, Beloved husband of Judith E. (dec) for 63 years. Dear father of Joel (Holly), Mark (Carolyn), Paul (Stacey), Julie, Tim (Elaine), Mark J. Karnas and John Paul Karnas.  Cherished grandfather and great grandfather of many. Dear brother Dave, Mary Francis (dec), Rosemary (dec), Barbara, Margaret Mary (dec), Joe (dec), Anne, Art, and Tom. Beloved uncle and friend to all.

Leo served as Mayor of Broadview Heights from November 1985 until December 2003, plus another two years on City Council.  He spent his first six years in Cleveland and another six years in North Royalton before his parents moved their family into Broadview Heights in the early 1940’s.  Except for a 23-year career in the US Air Force, Leo has lived most of his life in Broadview Heights.

Upon graduation in 1955, Bender went to Georgia for pilot training, and then shipped out for his first assignment in Okinawa, Japan in 1956.  That same year, a recent high school graduate from California moved to Okinawa with her mother and step-father, a career military man.  A year later, he married the love of his life, Judith.

A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL WILL BE HELD ON Tuesday, November 22 at 11:00 AM at Assumption Church.  PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.

FRIENDS MAY CALL AT THE DONALD A. FAULHABER FUNERAL HOME, 7915 BROADVIEW ROAD (AT Sprague) on Monday, November 21 from 4-8 pm.  Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
