Gerald R. Hudack

Gerald Hudack (88), of Broadview Heights Ohio, passed away on Monday May 22, 2023, after a short battle with renal failure.

Jerry, as he was known by his family and friends, was born on Aug. 28, 1934, to Michael Hudecz and Catherine Hudecz (nee, Drobny) in Cleveland, OH. In 1945 their last name was legally changed from Hudecz to Hudack. Jerry is predeceased by his wife Sandra Hudack (nee, Sawulski) brother Daniel Hudack and sister Dorothy Hudack. He is survived by his 2 children, Scott Hudack and Randy Hudack (Lori);  grandchildren Sarah Kinsey (Donnie) and Joey Hudack and great-grandaughter Cecelia Ruth Kinsey.

Jerry started roller skating when he was a teenager which is when he met his skating partner, Sandy who became his wife. After high school Jerry and Sandy continued with competition skating and in 1955 became State Champions. Jerry taught roller skating for several years before working as a bricklayer at Alcoa in Cleveland, OH., which is where he retired in 1996 after 30 years of service.

His hobbies included drawing; he was a talented artist. In 1976 he joined a competition to create a new city flag for Broadview Hts. He won and his flag design remains the official city flag. Martial arts, he was a black belt in Taekwondo, and he taught martial arts at Tri-C in Parma for 15 years. Jerry loved to play softball, which he played until age 82 with the Huff-n-Puffers in Parma OH. Earlier years, he enjoyed coaching the local Little League team and teaching his sons how to play ball.  Jerry loved chasing the sun, he and Sandy went on many beach vacations. Jerry had a great ability to make others smile and his sense of humor will be missed.

FRIENDS MAY CALL AT THE DONALD A. FAULHABER FUNERAL HOME, 7915 Broadview Road (at Sprague) where services will be held on Tuesday,  May 30 at 7:30 PM.  Visitation at the funeral home Tuesday 4 pm until time of service.
