Frances Strancar, Beloved wife of Marijan. Loving mother of Marni Strancar, Helen McRae (Bill), Joe Strancar (Julie), and Barb Szabo (Lou). Cherished grandmother of Brien Strancar (Paige), Katie Laakso (Peter), Dan Strancar, and Erin Szabo (Basil). Great grandmother of Jack Strancar, Evie Laakso, and Grace Laakso.
Frances was born on Dec. 11th 1922 in Litija Ljubljana and immigrated to the United States in 1949. She worked for a short time in Minnesota as a nanny but soon after traveled to Cleveland where she met her husband Marijan. They were married on Sept. 12, 1953 and went on to raise 4 children. They were proud of their Slovenian heritage and worked very hard to teach their children to speak Slovenian and to instill in them a deep appreciation of their heritage. Frances taught Slovenian school at St. Vitus for many years and it has often been said by her former students how kind and nice she was to them. There was rarely a time when she didn't have a homemade dessert on the table or a home cooked meal ready. She received so much joy from teaching her children and grandchildren how to make strudel, potica, and a plethora of other delicious foods. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and passed that on as well.
Below are some thoughts from the family she loved so very much:
"She was a gentle, kind, sweet soul who got the nickname "Nina" from her first grandson because of a tune she used to sing to him that went Ni-na-na-na.
"No matter the time of day at her house, she would always have a delicious meal or treat ready to offer. No matter how many times you politely refused her offer, you couldn't refuse her gently pushing a plate towards you and whispering, "eat, eat!"
"The nickname that she had for you spoken softly with a loving smile, and her hand warmly on your arm, while she expressed how great it was to visit with you."
"The afghans or sweaters she was always knitting or crocheting that have been passed down to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren."
"You could see the love in her eyes."
"Always loved her comforting greeting and goodbyes. No matter the weather, she smiled like the sun was shining and made you feel her love. Always will remember her waving goodbye from the driveway."
"She was the epitome of a selfless person and everybody else was always first."
"Nina always knew, she just knew without having to say anything."
"I will never forget her sweet voice, loving touch, warm heart, beautiful eyes, or saintly soul."
