Doris J Coleman

It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Doris Coleman of Broadview Heights, Ohio, aged 86. Doris passed away on Saturday morning, May the 6 ^th at University Hospital, Parma.

Doris was born, a Christmas baby, in metro Chicago on 12/25/1936 to Clarence and Catherine Busch, with one older sister, Joan. Doris spent her childhood years and schooling in the Chicago area, where she met her future husband and father of her five children, John Charles Coleman. They married on August 19 ^th , 1961 in Chicago. They then moved to the East coast, residing in Boston, where eldest son John was born, and metro New York City, where daughter Catherine and son Thomas were born. The family then moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1965, where daughter Claire and son James were born. They then moved to Cleveland in 1973, where the family remained.

Doris held several jobs over the years, including running an antique business, doing retail work, printmaking, graphic design, and her most recent work until retirement, as payroll clerk at Broadview Heights City Hall. Doris had too many hobbies and passions to list in a short space, but they included creating art (painting and sculpture), traveling, attending theater performances, music, reading, collecting antiques (her house was built by a Revolutionary War veteran nearly 200 years ago), and on and on. Doris was always making plans, and her weekly schedule was packed with events to attend with the many long-lasting friends she made everywhere she went. She had a unique ability to charm and relate to anyone. She was unfailingly kind, curious, wise, and insightful. She was passionate about fairness, rarely had a negative word to say about anyone she met, and never ceased paying close attention to current events. She was selflessly dedicated to the many people and things she loved. She lived her long and very eventful life with determination, pride, and grace, and left us peacefully and with great dignity.

Doris is survived by daughter Catherine and sons John, Tom, and James, as well as grandchildren Max, Jasper, and Jenson. Husband John passed away in April of 2002, and daughter Claire passed away in 2020.
