David A Bender

David A. Bender, age 89, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024. Beloved husband of Marjorie (nee Branke) for 61 years. Dear father of David J. (Beth), Patrick J. (Carol), Mary Beth (Aaron) Vaughn, and Anthony J. (Judy). Cherished grandfather of Brett (Donna), Brooke, Andrew, Kelly, Alexander, Xavier, Philip, and Matthew. Step-grandfather of Monica, Joseph, Julia, Melissa, Anna, and Lauren. Dear brother of Barbara, Anne, Art, Tom and the following deceased: Leo, Mary Francis, Rosemary, Margaret Mary, and Joe. Cherished uncle to many.

Dave was a lifelong resident of Broadview Heights and graduate of Brecksville High School class of 1952. Dave worked at NASA Lewis/Glenn Research in Cleveland for 29 years. He loved skiing, snowboarding, golfing, watching sports, and being with family and friends. He spent many years supporting BVH Rec Baseball through coaching and volunteering in the 1970’s and 1980’s. He was a 45-year member of the volunteer National Ski Patrol where he achieved a National number early on. He was elected Patrol Director for a collective total of 6 years. He provided first aid to countless injured skiers over the years at Brandywine/Boston Mills and other ski areas around Ohio and Western New York. He mentored other patrollers during annual first aid, skiing, and toboggan trainings.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s name to Assumption Church of Broadview Heights.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, February 15 at 10 am at Assumption Church, 9183 Broadview Road. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH
