Carol Jeanne Starr Dodd
June 24, 1932 – January 25, 2021
Carol continued her journey up the heavenly stairs early morning on January 25 th at the age of 88 ½.
Carol was a life-long resident of Broadview Hts. She was reared on a piece of the family homestead on Avery Road. After marrying Dick Dodd on December 15, 1951 she raised her children there as well.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Foster and Helen Starr; her brothers Richard and Laurence Starr and one grandson, Benjamin Urbon.
She will be missed by her sister, Sharon Starr Konvicka of San Marcos Texas; and her children: Laurel Palmisano (husband – Jim Palmisano), Tim Dodd (wife-Mary Dodd), Dawn Urbon (husband – John C. Urbon), Pam Brown (husband - James Lee Brown) Bob Dodd and a nephew, Rick Starr, she considered another son.
Carol leaves behind nine grandchildren: Bill Hillenbrand, Chris and Kirstyn Palmisano, Lisa Ptak, Dan Urbon, James C. Brown, Jeannette Jeanne Brown Baker, Angela and Ray Dodd.
She will also be missed by 18 great-grandchildren. Eli, Esti, Jacek, Silas, Jovan, Oliver, Henry, Destiny, Shane, Bryce, Ethan, Allie, Giovanni, Joshua, Kaelyn, Rowen, Lilah and Cali. In addition to these many family members she will be missed by a long list of nieces and nephews.
In their mid-forties Dick and Carol bought a cottage on Sandusky Bay. This became the focus of family fun and memories for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When Dick retired they purchased a mobile home. After that they spent summers at their cottage and winters in Rockport, Texas. They were proud to adopt the moniker “Winter Texans.” Dick and Carol easily made friends and will be missed by many in both of their homes away from home.
Carol loved music and enjoyed years of piano playing and listening to children and grandchildren who shared her talent.
Carol and Dick were avid dancers. They could jitter bug like no one else you will ever see. They outshone everyone on a dance floor. In Texas, they danced three times a week well into their 80’s. Their last complete winter in Texas was 2017-2018. In 2020 they spent a month in Texas, enjoying every moment until covid chased them home.
Carol and Dick were married 69 years this past Dec. 15 th . They have provided a most committed and faithful model of marriage for their children and grandchildren to emulate. Their commitment to each other has been epic. We had always thought we would lose Dad first, because of his pacemaker and heart issues. When anyone would ask Mom how she would ever manage without Dad, she would answer, “I don’t know if I will ever be able to sleep without his hand to hold.” Now, instead, it is Dad who has no hand to hold.
We will all miss you. You have left quite a legacy.
