Stanley “Stan” Kovalsick, 90, of Chatham, passed away on May 17, 2010. He was born on June 9, 1919 in Twin Rocks, Cambria County, Pa to Joseph Kowalsick and Elizabeth Bonyak and was one of 6 children. He worked as a coal miner in Nanty-Glo, Pa until he joined the Army in 1944. He was staff sergeant in the 204th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion and served in the European Theater during World War II. He fought in the D-Day landing on June 6, 1944, and later in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. Stan moved to Cleveland after the war ended and worked for the Sanson Company as a produce salesman for 40 years. In 1976 he moved to Koolbrook Farm in Chatham, where he raised sheep and chickens. He loved hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoor sportsman. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6941, American Legion Post 0008 and AMVETS Post 162. Stan is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 68 years, Julia (nee Hovanis) and his daughter, Marilyn (Robert) Canda, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his daughter Karen (James) Dennis and his five siblings. Family suggstes contributions to charity of choice. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT THE DONALD A. FAULHABER FUNERAL HOME, 7915 Broadview Road (at Sprague) where services will be held on Tuesday, May 25th at 11:30 AM. Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. VISITING HOURS TUESDAY 10 AM-until time of service.
